Forever in Our Hearts
April 18, 1959 - March 22, 2019

Marcy L. Street, M.D. faithfully served on the board of directors of the Bambu Fund LLC from the beginning of The Fund’s formation in 2015. Marcy was an American Academy of Dermatology board-certified dermatologist, medical director, and Mohs surgeon based in Okemos, Mich. She was a pioneer in her field becoming the first black female Mohs surgeon in the country. Mohs surgery is a microscopic specialized technique used to remove skin cancer. Practicing for more than two decades, Marcy specialized in prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of skin cancer and high-risk patients. In preparing for Bambu’s presence in the Latin American Caribbean (LAC) region, Dr. Street also obtained full licensure in Jamaica W.I. via The Medical Council of Jamaica.

Marcy found tremendous joy in serving her beloved community providing a variety of dermatologic services. To better serve her patients, Dr. Street founded Doctor’s Approach Dermatology & Surgery, Med Spa & Laser Center in Okemos. As CEO and medical director at Doctor’s Approach, Dr. Street developed and grew laboratory services for Mohs and other skin specimens. Her responsibilities also included providing medical oversight to the group practice while establishing protocols and updates throughout the medical practice and medical spa.

Marcy was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. She attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools for high school. Marcy received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and finishing her residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Dr. Street completed a fellowship in Mohs skin cancer surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wis. She trained under Dr. Frederic Mohs, the developer of Mohs surgery. Marcy was a proud member of many associations including the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Academy of Dermatology, Michigan Dermatology Society, Skin of Color Society, Women’s Dermatologic Society and the American Society of Mohs Surgery.

Marcy enjoyed traveling with family, scuba diving, meditating in her backyard garden, kayaking, biking, dancing and listening to smooth jazz and rhythm and blues. She is remembered by her infectious smile, glowing skin, commitment to self-improvement, spiritual wellness plus passion for academic excellence and mentorship. Her life’s work touched many and her legacy lives on in her daughters, Chelsea and Kayla, two physicians who are pursuing careers in dermatology. As she rests in peace, our Bambu family will continue moving forward in honor of her desire to, “see people get better.”

Well done, Marcy. Your presence is missed tremendously.
